Who decides on beauty standards ?

Qui sommes nous ?
We are Pulandevii and Vinola, two French artists of Indian origin. We actively work across several fields — art, education, and civic engagement — around social issues such as body fluidity, fatphobia, racism, and empowerment.

Vinola

Vinola is a Tamil woman, an entrepreneur, and a dancer with a wide range of styles — from Kollywood and Kuthu to Bharatanatyam and modern jazz. She is the co-founder of the page @passion.apsara, a platform dedicated to creating Indian dance videos and performances.
She is also a Tamil feminist activist deeply committed to addressing diverse issues affecting the Tamil community. Since 2019, she has been developing a body of representational work through her artistic creations with @bissai.media, and her activist work can be found on @parampara_fr.
Inspired by Ramba from a young age, dance and acting have been lifelong passions for her. As a Tamil diasporic woman facing a lack of representation, she believes opportunities must be created by us and for us. It’s no longer about waiting or conforming to the capitalist version of “inclusion” that commodifies our bodies.
pulandevii

@pulandevii Tamil, artist and sociologist, she shares her opinions with her communities on Indian culture, combining art, history and social justice. She dislikes cultural appropriation but helps people to make an effort in their practices. By creating her podcast Ni Ton Hindou Ni Ton PakPak, she aims to foster dialogue with her South Asian community and give voice to a variety of stories from the South Asian diaspora. Indian cinema is part of her culture for better or worse, and she uses it to discover the poetry of her culture and develop her critical eye on multiple themes such as gender inequality, colourism, casteism, beauty standards, and more.
She wants to empower and support members of her community, which is why she is collaborating with Vinola on a photographic, artistic and cathartic project. In her beauty reclaiming era, she wants to show that fat people are powerful and beautiful.
Our vision
🔥 Desire to celebrate our unstandardized Tamil Indian bodies.
To break free from the race toward beauty and appearance standards through creation and photography. In a rushed world, we want to take the time to wear our most beautiful traditional clothes, adorn ourselves with jewelry, and be enveloped in the scent of jasmine. To offer ourselves a moment of self-love, a pause from societal pressures, and a sense of solidarity — for a collective liberation, if only for the duration of a photoshoot.
